Blacktown Mount Druitt Hospital’s Clinical Services Building makes its mark with a brilliant design

Blacktown Mount Druitt Hospital’s new clinical services building in Sydney’s west was formally opened on 17 May this year. It forms part of Stage 1 of the Blacktown Mount Druitt Hospital expansion project, and was completed following two years of design and construction. This purpose built building supports contemporary models of care housing a haematology centre, a women’s health clinic, a pharmacy, a lunch and sleep centre, and more.

Designed by Laing O-Rourke Construction, the building was designed with staff, patients, carers and the community members in mind, setting new benchmarks for consumer engagement, clinical design and innovation.

The seven-story building, including two underground levels, sits adjacent to the existing Blacktown Hospital building and is linked by a fully enclosed internal hospital street, complete with new retail and dining areas.

Hanson Precast constructed the brilliantly adorned façade using a custom formliner from Robertson Façade Systems, and using Robertson’s Building Products’ Midnight Blue smooth pressed brick facing tiles. These brick facing tiles were laid in a third bond pattern, complete with picture frames around each panel. The use of this façade perfectly suited Builder Laing O’Rourke Construction’s Design for Manufacture and Assembly Approach where the building’s panels were built off site and “plugged” in to the project as needed.
