As part of the $80 million upgrade and expansion to the Knox Private Hospital, its car park was extended in 2015 providing more than 240 additional parking spaces. Following this major development, it is now the second largest private hospital in Victoria, and the largest private hospital in the east.
The project extended the existing Inpatient Unit, including an additional 60 beds and two-bed wards, with 10 consulting suites, a new main entrance and a pharmacy/gift shop. The upgrade also included an expanded imaging department and new kitchen, supply and storage areas, maintenance and workshop areas and, as mentioned, the additional 240 plus car parks.
The striking contemporary façade to the car park, facing Boronia Road, was created using Robertson Façade Systems’ Brick Inlay system. This provided Watpac, the builder, with a simple and cost-efficient construction solution. Not to mention a striking façade for the structural concrete walls of the car park, using Midnight Blue and Pressed Red brick facing tiles. It’s an eye-catching design and a highly amenable solution to surrounding residents.
Melbourne Architects, Woods Bagot’s choice of the thin brick tiles was a clever one, as they not only resemble standard bricks in size, but they also beautifully complement each other with their contrasting rich, earthy colours.
A master plan is in place to ensure the hospital continues to grow to meet increasing community demand.
